The vertical format keeps stacking numbers. Global short drama downloads passed 850 million in Q1 2026, a 140% jump from a year earlier, and revenue hit about $750 million. The spikes below come from platform charts, app store listings, and trade reporting at Variety and Deadline.
ReelShort’s double shot
ReelShort holds two of its Top 20 chart names in the current cycle: The Senator’s Son and Kingsley. The platform posted $80 million in revenue in early 2026 and counts 70 million monthly actives. Those numbers back a slate built on high-gloss romance and cliffhanger payoffs. The two leads have become fan-cast fixtures on social feeds, and their drama keeps ReelShort at the top of the revenue chart.
DramaBox returns to No. 1
DramaBox reclaimed the No. 1 revenue spot in July, up 20.91% month over month. Its breakout Raise an Ancient King to Be My Boyfriend mixes time travel, survival, and a female lead who does the rescuing. The App Store listing shows 4.8 stars across 598,000 ratings, which signals how fast the platform’s genre blend converts users into repeat watchers.
Issa Rae’s TikTok experiment compounds
Issa Rae fronted Screen Time, TikTok’s first vertical drama, and the 57-episode thriller has crossed 150 million views since April. TikTok helped finance the series. Rae, the creator and actor behind Insecure, pulled an audience that often skips short-form apps. The one-minute episodes follow two couples facing an online hacker, and the show keeps gaining as TikTok promotes it to new regions.
NetShort’s revenge engine
Google Play rankings show NetShort at No. 1 for downloads in July, up 21.57% month over month. Two new early access titles, Heiress’ Fatal Feast and Cut Off by My Son, I Rose Again, lean into family revenge and rags-to-riches payback. The weekly release cadence keeps the app inside the top download tier, and each episode ends on a cliff that pushes the next tap.
Kuku TV turns reality vertical
Kuku TV launched Sabse Bada Dramebaaz as India’s first acting reality microdrama. Judges Rakesh Bedi, Jannat Zubair, and Prince Narula lead 50 two-minute episodes that mix competition and scripted arcs. Bedi brings decades of screen work, Zubair carries a massive social following, and Narula knows reality TV from the inside. The show gives aspiring performers a direct route into front-facing roles, and its format could travel beyond India.
